Storm Thorgerson designed the Interstellar poster for an exhibition of Pink Floyd of the same name, mounted in Paris in October 2003. Here Storm Thorgerson reveals his influences and imaginings below:
The two glass eyeballs of Pulse DVD were transmitted via (Anish) Kapoor into two perfect mirror balls, one on top of another, finely balanced, but comfortable, each ball being a planet or star, and its what goes on in between, as in interstellar, which is paramount. It is the secret of Pink Floyd, or so I like to think, foolish me.
Between the balls, between the stars, is an endless repetition, an infinite repeat of images. The balls were made of perfect Perspex hemispheres electroplated with a perfect mirror, which means that there are no unwelcome defects or distortions.
The area between the spheres is reminiscent of Ummagumma though much more difficult to define, easier to see the depths of reflection, showing the trees, clouds, river, grass, and my good self and crazy Rupert if you look hard. I find this piece very tranquil and calmthe calm before the storm, would that be?
