By 1977 the design team of Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell at Hipgnosis were firmly established as 10ccs album cover designers.Deceptive Bendswas the fourth album cover designed by them.
The idea was originally based on a signpost on the road to 10ccs Surrey recording studio Beware Deceptive Bends, but Hipgnosis turned this idea on its head with the reference to a diver suffering from the Bends.
