Artwork Inspiration

The album cover features an extraordinary vision: hundreds of wrought iron hospital beds arranged on Saunton Sands beach in Devon. Storm Thorgerson explained that he wanted “beds for patients, beds for mad people, beds for dreamers.”

Furthermore, the team transported 700 beds in two trucks, setting them out one by one. The shoot required tractors, helpers, dog handlers, models, and even a microlight. Heavy rain forced the crew to abandon the first attempt, but two weeks later they returned and captured the now-legendary shot.

Cultural Significance

Momentary Lapse of Reason represented Pink Floyd’s resurgence after Roger Waters’ departure. In addition, the album reached No.3 on the Billboard charts in 1987 and reaffirmed the band’s global presence.

Notably, the cover has become one of Thorgerson’s most celebrated works, blending surrealism with sheer physical effort. This signed edition connects collectors directly with both the artistry and the music of Pink Floyd.
