Artwork Background

In 1973, Houses of the Holy marked a turning point for Led Zeppelin. Their US tour shattered box office records previously held by The Beatles, confirming them as the biggest band in the world. Moreover, the cover art reflected their growing ambition and creative vision.

Aubrey Powell proposed photographing a family on the Giant’s Causeway to match Clarke’s novel. He shot the images in black and white, then hand-tinted them in the studio. He also photographed the children in multiple poses, cut them from the photos, and assembled them into a surreal collage. The result became one of the most recognisable covers in rock history.

Cultural Significance

This print is not just a reproduction. It is a signed, large-format work from the artists who shaped the visual identity of Pink Floyd, Genesis, 10cc, and many others. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters once recalled, “I became totally obsessed with Led Zeppelin. They were the first band I actually listened to. I put on Houses of the Holy and just sat there.”
