Drastic Plastic was the last album by Be-Bop Deluxe, released in 1978. The material on the album marked a change in the musical direction of the band, with more synthpop and New Wave sounds alongside some of the progressive and glam standards. We took our cues from the title: drastic as in vividly bright or primary colours and plastic as in acrylic paint and shiny work tops. This was a purpose built set in our studio like a kitchen area a real place but geometric, a stylised slice of reality which might echo the music. Storm Thorgerson.
