Drastic Plastic was the last album by Be Bop Deluxe, released in 1978. It marked a clear shift in their sound, mixing synthpop and New Wave with the progressive and glam rock they were known for. The vibrant album cover captures this change perfectly.

We took our cues from the title: “drastic” meaning bright, vivid colours, and “plastic” evoking acrylic paint and shiny surfaces. This design was created in our studio as a stylised, geometric set — like a kitchen area sliced from reality — to echo the music’s vibe. That’s Storm Thorgerson’s take on the concept.
